The Research Area

The Florence Research Area has a total covered area of more than 23,000 m2, is located inside the Florence University scientific area (Polo Scientifico Universitario) and can be easily reached by car and public transportation.

It comprises 5 buildings that host several research istitutes and other scientific structures such as the Laboratory for Meteorology and the Design and Construction of Environmental Models (LAMMA), the Centre of Electronic Microscopies (CeME), and ELab Scientific Srl, a CNR spin-off Company.

The Research Area is equipped with a Congress Center with three halls and meetings rooms with audio/video systems, a cafeteria and a bar and can host international events.

Its service structures guarantee logistical, technical-organisational, computer and administrative support to the Institutes it hosts.

Technological transfer is of utmost importance for the National Research Council of Italy; For this purpose the Florence Research Area has a dedicated structure called the Centre Research & Industry. Such structure was built in 2013 with the help of Ragione Toscana, in the context of the Tuscany network for innovation.

The Centre aims to enhance the research and technology outcomes of the CNR Institutes of Florence, with about 500 research employees in the Florence Research Area site, and about 100 more in the Florence city.
