terrà il seminario:

"How Do We Keep Space Safe?"

Dr. Darren McKnight examines the relationship between Space Traffic Management, Debris Mitigation, and Space Operations Assurance. Research into the dynamics of massive derelicts abandoned in orbit highlights the potential that accidental collisions between clusters of rocket bodies and nonoperational payloads may well drive the growth of orbital debris in the near future. While collision avoidance and debris mitigation are necessary for continued safe access to space, they are not sufficient: debris remediation must be pursued actively in order to avoid a significant deterioration of the ability of satellites to operate reliably in low Earth orbit. Results from a three-year space characterization experiment will be presented and used to accentuate the need to initiate a new era of Space Environment Management.
